Big bro's birthday!

My older brother, Corey turned 26 yesterday and I made him a cake, trying to practice my decorating skills every chance I get!

Candy buffet!

I'm not sure where I found this picture, but I absolutely love this idea and always have!! It's so cute to have a candy buffet at a wedding or kid's party!  I went to a friend, Sara's wedding this summer and she had one and it was just too cute!  I can't wait to have my special day and plan out all of the little details!

Phineas and Ferb cake

I have taken on the challenge of creating a Phineas and Ferb themed cake for my favorite little kid, Ethan's birthday party this Saturday coming up! He is turning 2 and he absolutely loves watching that show whenever I babysit him.  The cake I am going to try to make is two tiers covered in fondant and decorated with fondant as well.  The exact cake I want to try to replicate is below:

I have already ordered the surfing Phineas and Ferb characters as well as a Perry the Platypus character to add to the cake!  I'm super excited to create this cake, but also very nervous because this is my first real cake project that someone has requested of me.  I just want to make it look perfect for them!!! I hope I can make it look awesome!

Painting during Hurricane Irene

I started a painting project to have something to do during this crazy weather we have out east.

Actually excited for school...

I am extremely proud of myself for signing up for Fall classes at the local community college!  I haven't taken any classes in the last year due to me being (1) lazy, (2) having a pretty crappy year in general, and (3) just not wanting to deal with classes while working full time.  I am kicking myself now for not signing up last semester or the one before that but am glad that i'm going back this semester!  
I am only taking two online classes, but I am actually excited be back and plus I'll have something to do while Eric is at work every night!  And it's something that will help me for the future, that's what's best, right?!  I've learned in the last few months that you have to do whatever you need to do to make yourself happy and I am working on getting to that point.  Classes...check...next on my list, working out more!!!

Strawberry topped cupcakes

My first try at using strawberries on my cupcakes yesterday! My aunt Cheryl's birthday was Saturday and she loves strawberry shortcake type desserts, so I went with a simple cupcake:






1 box Betty Crocker golden vanilla cupcake mix (along with the eggs, water, and oil that the mix calls for)
1 canister of Betty Crocker whipped vanilla frosting
1 8 oz tub of whipped cream
Strawberries, washed and sliced

All I did was mix half of the whipped cream with all of the frosting and topped my cupcakes with that and a couple slices of strawberries. Most people know I'm not that big of a fan of strawberries, but this combo was so good!! Definitely making again in the future!

Brittney's wedding reception!

Eric and I made the drive down to Fredericksburg, VA last night to attend my childhood friend, Brittney's wedding reception.  It was a great night!  I was excited to be able to see Brittney and Peyton's celebration, they are so happy together.

A little bit of background info...Brittney and her little sister Courtney grew up with my little sister Emily and I while our families were living on base/Ft. Meade.  There are so many memories of all of us together.  I'm so glad that we all kept in touch and hung out together after they moved down to VA many years ago.  We haven't seen eachother as much as we would all like to, but hopefully we will all hangout a lot more now that everyone is growing up.  It's crazy to think that we are all adults now...crazy how time flies!
